In 2012, I built a simple POS app for my friend Stef's bar because he was still using pen and paper to track sales and the tax department wasn’t having it. That ‘charmingly bare-bones’ system was in use for over a decade (with one legendary tab from 2018 that crashes the app if you touch it — so they just...didn’t). Later, when I decided to make some much needed upgrades in my spare time to the design, accounting logic, and architecture, I realized my pet project had the potential to be something much bigger.
Today, I'm excited to announce that Tebi has raised a €30 million Series B led by Alphabet's CapitalG, with Index Ventures participating. This brings our total funding to €56 million, only eight months after we announced our Series A.
Here's what drives us: Hospitality owners don't open their doors because they love integrating five different software systems or wrestling with manual inventory counts at 2 AM. They do it for the craft, the community, the look of delight in the customers’ eyes when they have an amazing evening.
Yet the technology serving these passionate business owners has been fragmented, clunky, and built by people who've never worked a dinner rush. Point of sale here, disconnected payments there, kitchen tickets on paper, reservations on another platform, inventory in spreadsheets. It's operational chaos disguised as "solutions".
We're building something fundamentally different. Not yet another tool to add to the stack, but replacing them with a complete financial operating system that thinks like hospitality works. Tebi OS unifies POS, payments, kitchen displays, reservations, inventory, and bookkeeping around a real-time accounting backbone — because at the end of the day, every transaction tells a story about your business.
The technical accounting architecture we've developed — what we call "subledgers" — creates independent, communicating ledgers that can scale from a single invoice to enterprise-level operations. This isn't just elegant engineering; it enables the seamless, snappy real-time experience that hospitality businesses actually need.
But here's what really excites me: we’re reimagining workflows with AI to eliminate friction that's plagued hospitality for decades. AI-powered onboarding gets businesses running in minutes. Intelligence woven throughout can anticipate needs, automate the routine, and surface insights that help owners focus on what they love most.
Our merchants in the Netherlands are already processing nine figures annually. Starting today, we're expanding to the UK, with more international markets following.
A dish is only as good as the ingredients you cook with. In addition to expansion, these new funds raised will be used to continue to build a best-in-class product, engineering, and operations organization. One that is hyper-focused on building out Tebi and working with all our merchants to ensure they have the tools they need to deliver the best experience to their customers.
I am stoked that we were able to welcome two seasoned tech leaders to the exec team in addition to me and my co-founder / CTO Rob Vonk: Aki Tas, former head of business strategy and operations at Notion, joined last fall as COO to lead the product, marketing, and foundation teams, and Patrick Studener, former COO at Wolt (now part of Doordash) and previous head of European expansion at Uber, joined at the beginning of the year as CCO to lead operational teams.
To Alex Nichols and the CapitalG team, and Jan Hammer at Index Ventures — thank you for believing in our mission. To the incredible team of 35 (soon to be 70) building this with me — let's free every hospitality business owner to focus on what they love most.
This funding lets us move faster, grow our team, and keep building for an industry that pours craft, care, and grit into every dish they serve.
